CONSTRUCTION  OF TERMINAL CAR PARK PHASE 2 - BEIRUT INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Location: Lebanon
Duration: 10 Months
Total Built-up Area - 45,000 sqm.
Multi-level car park - 1,200 nos. capacity
Beirut International Airport is located 9 kilometres from the city center in the southern suburbs of Beirut, Lebanon and is the only operational commercial airport in the country. It was rebuilt as a modern facility with an expected annual handling capacity of 6 million passengers per year. A number of support facilities were either rehabilitated or constructed such as the rescue and fire fighting station, utility complex, civil aviation safety center and maintenance workshops, radars and meteorological buildings, a building for sorting mail, catering facility in addition to a complex of landside road system including interchanges, underpasses, bridges, terminal curbside facilities and an underground car park.
The project is the construction of the underground multi-level carpark within the Terminal Building and designed to have a 1,200 car capacity. The construction gives emphasis on the structural elements which are considered the main fundamental support foundation for the building. As the carpark is operational for 24 hours, the structural integrity was considered for heavyduty usage. The structure is constructed with pre-cast beams and with a full hollowcore slab system. Conventional concrete are also used for other structural elements such as verhicular ramps, shearwalls and pits.
As parking structures are subjected to the heavy and shifting loads of moving vehicles, and must bear the associated physical stresses. Expansion joints are used between sections not only for thermal expansion but to accommodate the flexing of the structure's sections due to vehicle traffic with Seismic considerations applied as required. Special Vehicular Traffic Coating System and heavy duty finishes are applied to withstand the heavy usage of the facility.
The facility is designed to accommodate 1,200 cars in its multi-level car park structure.
